Food intolerance

The FOOD you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of MEDICINE or the slowest form of POISON.

~ Ann Wigmore

Food allergies vs intolerances

Simply explained, food allergies are considered more dangerous than food intolerances and can develop into a severe reaction that is life-threatening and require immediate medical attention. Food intolerances, on the other hand, are rarely that serious, and usually, present themselves through an accumulation of symptoms over time making them much harder to identify. The main difference is that food allergies usually cause symptoms right away before the food starts to be digested as the body's immune system mistakes the food for an 'invader', whereas food intolerances occur mainly because of digestive issues such as an inability to metabolise the food or intestinal permeability (commonly known as 'leaky gut'). Food intolerances are associated with a wide range of symptoms including gut symptoms, bloating, migraines, low mood, weight gain, fatigue and skin problems.

If you suspect you may have a food intolerance, check out the Quick Start Food Intolerance Package further down.

Food allergies

  • Less common

  • Cause symptoms straight away, and no more than 2 hours

  • The body’s immune system mistakes a food for an ‘invader’

  • Rarely involves more than 1 to 2 foods

  • Most commonly affects skin, airways and digestive system

  • Can be triggered by trace amounts of foods

  • Caused by raised IgE antibodies stimulating an allergic reaction

  • Are lifelong

Food Intolerances

  • Very common

  • Symptoms are delayed and can take anything from hours to several days,

  • Usually due to an inability for the body to metabolise the food

  • Usually involves multiple foods

  • Symptoms can be digestive and systemic and much harder to identify

  • Usually worsened by the amount and frequency consumed of trigger foods

  • Caused by raised IgG antibodies contributing to inflammation

  • Symptoms can sometimes clear after digestive issues have been addressed

Symptoms linked to food intolerance include ...

  • abdominal pain

  • chronic pain

  • acne

  • bloating

  • constipation

  • diarrhoea

  • eczema

  • fatigue

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

  • itchy and dry skin

  • fluid retention

  • bloating

  • headaches and migraines

  • nausea

  • rashes

  • rhinitis

  • sinusitis

  • weight gain

Food intolerance testing allows us to analyse your blood sample for specific IgG antibody reactions which will determine the exact foods you are currently reacting to. Eliminating these foods from the diet over a set period of time, alongside personalised digestive support, can help to eliminate symptoms, reduce inflammation, and begin the body's own healing processes.

I wanted to see someone who I felt knew what they were doing!

I think Jennifer does and I really like her thorough and steady approach. For me further testing has been invaluable in getting my life back in terms of being pretty much able to eat what I want again. It has also helped me to have faith in the supplements I have taken as these are based on those results. Also she is not afraid to tell me I need to take better care of myself, which in turn has helped me to be stronger in focusing on my recovery. I am very grateful to her.
